Description of Cyrba algerina (Algerian jumping spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 4 to 6.5 mm.
Abdomen dark reddish brown with very faint light markings.
Carapace dark reddish brown with a thin white band along the edge.
Legs dark reddish brown with white annulations.
Palps dark reddish brown with white annulations.

Male 3.5 to 5 mm.
Abdomen yellow-orange to orange-brown with some white stripes and a white spot on the spinnerets.
Carapace orange with a thin white band along the edge. Anterior eyes with white outlines.
Legs dark brown with white spots and longitudinal stripes.
Palps dark brown.

Habitat

Warm, dry places on stones and sand or on houses.

Distribution

Common in the Mediterranean area.

Period

Spring and summer.
