Description of Evarcha falcata

Physical Characteristics

Female 5 to 8 mm.
Abdomen reddish brown to almost black with light hairs along the edges. In the centre sometimes vague dark spots.
Carapace reddish brown to almost black with light hairs along the side.
Legs dark hair and vaguely annulated.
Palps light-dark annulated with long white hairs.

Male 4 to 6 mm.
Abdomen light reddish brown on top surrounded by a black spotty border. Along the outer edge white hairs.
Carapace light reddish brown with black spots behind the posterior eyes. Along the sides two broad, whitish bands and along the bottom a black band.
Legs light-dark annulated. Femora of the first two pairs of legs black and thickened.
Palps light-dark annulated with bushy light brown hairs at the end.

Habitat

On sunny, open places in grass and low shrubs.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring and summer.
