Description of Leptorchestes mutilloides (Ant-like jumping spider)

Physical Characteristics

Resembles an ant.

Female 5 to 6.5 mm.
Abdomen black with a distinct constriction in the centre with a white horizontal band.
Carapace black.
Legs yellow-brown or pale with black stripes. Pair of legs III and IV almost entirely black.
Palps black with brown tarsi.

Male 4 to 6 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Pair of legs I is slightly darker.

Habitat

On the ground, in vegetation and on walls.

Distribution

Occurs in the Mediterranean area.

Period

The portrayed specimen has been found in June. No further information about the period is known.
