Description of Neottiura bimaculata

Physical Characteristics

Female 2 to 3.5 mm.
Abdomen shiny reddish-brown to dark brown with a white to cream white spot on top and sometimes white to creamy white edges. Sometimes completely dark.
Carapace shiny reddish brown to brown with dark radial stripes and a dark triangle on the eye area.
Legs and palps light yellow.

Male 2 to 3 mm.
Abdomen shiny reddish-brown to almost black.
Carapace shiny reddish-brown to almost black.
Legs pale yellow. Femora IV has at the base a strong spine.
Palps shiny reddish-brown to almost black.

Habitat

Low plants and leaves of trees in moist areas. In the Alps up to 1,000 m.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring, summer and autumn.
