Description of Scotophaeus blackwalli (Mouse spider)

Physical Characteristics

Built somewhat slimmer than Scotophaeus scutulatus.
Female 7 to 11 mm.
Abdomen glossy brown to dark brown haired.
Carapace glossy brown to dark brown haired.
Legs brown to dark brown haired. Femora with stronger hair growth.
Palps brown to dark brown haired.

Male 5 to 9 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

Under bark and in and around houses.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Females all year, males summer and autumn.
