Description of Eratigena atrica (Common house spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 11 to 18 mm.
Abdomen dark brown with yellow chevrons on top and small yellow spots along the sides.
Carapace yellow-brown to dark brown with a lighter edge.
Legs and palps yellow-brown to dark brown.

Male 10 to 15 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

Mainly in buildings and houses, also in warm regions under stones and in caves.

Distribution

Very common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Male summer and autumn, females all year.
