Description of Neriene peltata (Platform hammock spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 4 to 5.5 mm.
Abdomen white with a reddish brown wavy median band containing some light spots.
Carapace reddish brown to dark brown with a darker median band, a darker head and light radial stripes.
Legs and palps yellow-brown, sometimes with reddish joints.

Male 2 to 3.5 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

In (coniferous) trees and shrubs.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring and summer.
