Description of Larinioides sclopetarius (Bridge orbweaver)

Physical Characteristics

Looks like the Furrow orbweaver (Larinioides cornutus).

Female 10 to 19 mm.
Abdomen yellowish brown with a light defined dark leaf-shaped figure on top and a light outlined triangular spot at the front. The light outline is quite narrow.
Carapace grey with a white v-shaped pattern on top and a white band along the edge.
Poten and palps greyish to brown with dark annulations and dots.

Male 6 to 8 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

Bridges, walls and rocks near running water.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Almost all year. Males mainly in summer.
