Description of Holocnemus pluchei (Marbled cellar spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 5 to 7.5 mm.
Abdomen reddish brown to dark brown with yellowish or whitish marbled markings.
Carapace pale brown to greyish brown with a dark median band.
Legs yellowish brown. Joints whitish with a dark band before and / or after.
Palps yellowish brown.

Male 5 to 7 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Palps reddish.

Habitat

In warm areas in prickly pear cacti, under stones, in wall niches, caves and cellars.

Distribution

Occurs in the southern half of Europe.

Period

Spring, summer and autumn.
