Description of Cyrtophora citricola (Tropical tent-web spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 8 to 15 mm.
Abdomen elongated with 4 lumps anteriorly and 2 lumps posteriorly. Colour yellowe brown to reddish brown with a pattern of white spots and lines.
Carapace grey.
Legs and palps yellow-brown to reddish brown with dark annulations.

Male 2 to 4 mm.
Markings almost identical to the female, but darker coloured.

Habitat

Warm, sunny areas in bushes and prickly pear cacti.

Distribution

Common in the Mediterranean area.

Period

Almost all year.
