Description of Agalenatea redii (Gorse Orbweaver)

Physical Characteristics

Markings highly variable (3 variants).

Female 7 to 10.5 mm.
Abdomen yellow-brown to dark brown with a whitish-fringed, wavy dark median band and whitish lateral stripes and dark spots beside it. These can also be missing. Also, two large white spots can be present on the front side. A third variant only has a dark triangular top drawing with light fringing.
Carapace brown.
Legs and palps light-dark annulated.

Male 3.5 to 6.5 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

Warm, sunny areas in bushes and low vegetation.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Almost all year.
