Description of Amaurobius ferox

Physical Characteristics

Female 11 to 16 mm.
Abdomen dark brownish grey with a bluish tinge. On top of a faint brown cardiac mark, and faint brown chevrons behind it. The markings are sometimes barely visible.
Carapace dark reddish brown with a darker head region.
Legs and palps dark reddish brown with faint annulations.

Male 8 to 12 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

In humid places, such as caves, cellars and wall crevices. Also in houses.

Distribution

Common in almost the whole of Europe.

Period

Almost all year.
