Description of Dolomedes fimbriatus (Raft spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 9 to 22 mm.
Abdomen dark brown with a small light brown cardiac mark and broad white bands along the sides. These bands are not always claer.
Carapace dark brown with broad white or yellow stripes along the sides. These are just like the bands of the abdomen not always clear.
Legs and palps brown.

Male 9 to 15 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female..

Habitat

Mainly along river banks, but also in wet meadows and marshes.

Distribution

Occurs in the whole of Europe, but in many places more and more less common.

Period

Winter, spring and summer.
