Description of Linyphia hortensis (Garden hammock spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 4 to 6 mm.
Abdomen black-brown with a partly white-fringed leaf-shaped figure on top.
Carapace dark reddish brown with a black head.
Legs and palps yellow-brown.

Male 3 to 5 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Abdomen sometimes entirely black-brown, except for two white spots on the front side.

Habitat

In bushes and low vegetation in forests and open fields.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring and summer.
