Description of Segestria senoculata (Snake-back spider or Leopard spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 7 to 10 mm.
Abdomen light brown to brown with a row of contiguous dark brown spots on top and small dark spots along the sides.
Carapace dark brown.
Legs and palps light-dark annulated.

Male 6 to 9 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

Mainly under tree bark. Also in wall crevices and under stones.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

All year.
