Description of Carrhotus xanthogramma

Physical Characteristics

Female 7 to 9 mm. Appearance highly variable.
Abdomen yellow to yellow orange with a dark median band and sometimes vague or sometimes just clear black V-shaped lines.
Carapace dark brown with yellowish bands and spots that vary in number and size by individual.
Legs light-dark annulated.
Palps light brown with long white hairs.

Male 5 to 7 mm.
Abdomen orange brown with a yellow band on the front which is interrupted by a black spot.
Carapace black haired with a few orange hairs.
Legs black haired with a few orange hairs.
Palps black haired.

Habitat

Sunny, warm places in trees and bushes.

Distribution

Occurs in almost the whole of Europe, but everywhere quite rare.

Period

Spring and summer.
