Description of Drapetisca socialis (Invisible spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 3 to 5 mm.
Abdomen white with an irregular, vaguely outlined dark pattern on top. Sides dark.
Carapace light brown to dark brown with a dark, forked median band, dark radial spots and a dark band along the edge.
Legs and palps clearly light-dark annulated.

Male 3 to 4 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

Mainly tree trunks. In late autumn sometimes on the forest floor as well.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Summer and autumn.
