Description of Gonatium rubens

Physical Characteristics

Strongly resembles the other Gonatium species, particularly to Gonatium rubellum. Identification of the species can only be done based on genital characteristics.

Female 2.5 to 3.5 mm.
Abdomen dark reddish brown to gray brown.
Carapace orange to red.
Legs and palps yellow-orange to orange-red.

Male 2.5 to 3 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

In forests on the ground between undergrowth and in low growing plants.

Distribution

Occurs in the whole of Europe.

Period

All year.
