Description of Araneus sturmi

Physical Characteristics

Female 5 to 6 mm.
Abdomen yellow-brown to reddish brown with two large white-fringed dark spots on the front side. Posteriorly often a leaf-shaped figure.
Carapace yellow-brown to reddish brown.
Legs and palps yellow-brown to reddish brown with faint dark annulations.

Male 3 to 5 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Sometimes a little darker.

Habitat

Shrubs and trees, mainly on conifers.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring, summer and autumn.
