Description of Aelurillus v-insignitus (V-fronted jumper)

Physical Characteristics

Female 5 to 8 mm.
Abdomen brown to yellowish brown with a spotty light median band and black-brown and light brown spots along the sides.
Carapace grey-brown to yellow-brown with light brown and black-brown spots and a white stripe below the anterior lateral eyes.
Legs grey-brown to yellow-brown with dark annulations.
Palps yellow-brown with very thin dark annulations.

Male 4 to 5 mm.
Abdomen black-brown with a white median band.
Carapace black brown with a characteristic V-shaped pattern above the anterior eyes and a lighter coloured area below the anterior eyes.
Legs brown with dark annulations.
Palps with thick brown hairs.

Habitat

Sunny, dry areas on sand, rocks and heathlands etc.

Distribution

Quite common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring and summer.
