Description of Tetragnatha nigrita (Dark stretch-spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 7 to 11 mm.
Abdomen dark brown with an elongated, white outlined leaf-shaped figure with some broad lobes. The width of the white outline varies per individual.
Carapace dark brown with black.
Sternum brown with a black border.
Legs and palps light brown with dark annulations.

Male 6 to 8 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Sometimes a little darker.

Habitat

In shrubs and trees, often near water.

Distribution

Occurs in the whole of Europe, but not very common.

Period

Summer.
