Description of Pholcus phalangioides (Short-bodied cellar spider)

Physical Characteristics

Vrouwtje 2 tot 2.5 mm.
Abdomen pale brown, reddish or dark grey with a few dark spots.
Carapace pale with a darker spot on top..
Poten and palps pale.

Mannetje 1.5 tot 2 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Palps strongly elongated and with dark brown patellae and tarsi.


In buildings, caves, walls and under stones.


Occurs in the southern half of Europe.


Spring, summer and autumn.
