Description of Alopecosa barbipes

Physical Characteristics

Female 8 to 12 mm.
Abdomen brown with a light brown median band which contains a small greyish cardiac mark and black chevrons. On both sides of the median band a row of black spots.
Carapace dark brown with a broad light brown median band and an unclear light brown band along the edge.
Legs and palps clearly light-dark annulated.

Male 7.5 to 9 mm.
Abdomen brown with broad yellow-brown median band and two rows of black spots beside.
Carapace dark brown with a broad light brown median band and an unclear light brown band along the edge.
Legs brown. Pair of legs I with slightly thickened, black tibiae.
Palps dark brown.

Habitat

Heathlands, grassland and forest edges.

Distribution

Quite common in almost the whole of Europe.

Period

All year.
