Description of Neriene radiata (St. Pauls hammock spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 3.5 to 6.5 mm.
Abdomen yellowish white with a black wavy median band which at the rear is deeply constricted or even completely interrupted. Sides yellowish white-black striped.
Carapace brown with a broad yellow white border.
Legs and palps yellow-brown.

Male 3.5 to 6.5 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

In trees and shrubs and other tall vegetation.

Distribution

Occurs in the whole of Europe. Locally fairly common.

Period

Spring and summer.
