Description of Cercidia prominens

Physical Characteristics

Female 3.5 tot 6.5 mm.
reddish brown with slightly lighter sides and a lighter, yellowish stripe on top. At the front on both sides 3 to 4 spines. Frontal part covered with a scutum.
Carapace reddish brown to dark brown with scattered white hairs and a thin white stripe along the edge.
Legs and palps reddish brown with darker annulations.

Male 3 tot 5 mm.
Abdomen eddish brown to black-brown with a yellow-brown stripe on top. At the front on both sides 3 to 4 spines. Frontal part covered with ascutum.
Carapace dark reddish brown with scattered white hairs and a thin white stripe along the edge.
Legs dark reddish brown with black annulations. Femora I and II completely black and slightly thickened.
Palps black-brown.

Habitat

Open areas with low vegetation, such as heathlands and meadows, and sunny forest edges. Less often in woodlands.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

All year.
