Description of Castianeira badia

Physical Characteristics

Female 7.5 to 9 mm.
Abdomen black with a distinctive marking of horizontal white lines and a white median band which extends to the centre of the abdomen.
Carapace black with a white median band and a thin white band around.
Legs dark brown with almost black femora and a few white spots.
Palps dark brown.

Male 6.5 to 8.5 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female. Has a scutum that covers about two-thirds of the abdomen.

Habitat

Under and between stones in warm areas with low vegetation.

Distribution

In Europe only in Spain and Portugal.

Period

Spring, summer and autumn. Adult males not in summer.
