Description of Scytodes thoracica (Spitting spider)

Physical Characteristics

Female 4 to 5.5 mm.
Abdomen yellow brown with a pattern of black spots.
Carapace with characteristic sloping forehead. Colour yellow-brown with a pattern of black spots.
Legs and palps yellow-brown with black annulations.

Male 3.5 to 4 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

In warmer regions in various habitats as heathlands, gardens and rocks. Up to the north often in houses and buildings.

Distribution

Common in Southern and Central Europe.

Period

Spring, summer and autumn.
