Description of Segestria florentina

Physical Characteristics

Female 14 to 22 mm.
Abdomen black-brown, sometimes with a contiguous row of unclear black spots.
Carapace black-brown. Chelicerae with a green metallic shine.
Legs and palps black-brown.

Male 10 to 15 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

In crevices in old walls and rocks, under rocks and bark, and in buildings.

Distribution

Common in the Mediterranean area, especially in coastal areas. Up to the north as far as the Netherlands and Great Britain.

Period

Summer and autumn.
