Description of Theridion mystaceum

Physical Characteristics

Strongly resembles Theridion melanurum.

Female 2 to 3 mm.
Abdomen dark brown with a slightly lighter, wavy median band.
Carapace dark brown with a black spot on top, black radial stripes and a black band along the edge.
Legs and palps clearly light-dark annulated.

Male 2 to 3 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

In several areas, such as forests, heathlands, marshes and gardens. Also on buildings and walls.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe.

Period

Spring and summer. Females all year.
