Description of Zygiella x-notata (Missing sector orb weaver)

Physical Characteristics

Female 6 to 12 mm.
Abdomen grey-brown with a clear silvery shine and a slightly darker leaf-shaped figure in the middle.
Carapace yellow-brown with a black median band which is anteriorly much broader than posteriorly.
Poten light-dark annulated.
Palps yellow-brown.

Male 4 to 8 mm.
Markings and colours almost identical to the female.

Habitat

Mainly on buildings and fences, etc.

Distribution

Common in the whole of Europe. To the east rarer.

Period

Summer, autumn and early winter.
